Work Comp benefits after you see a doctor for work injury.

Hi everyone! Dustin here from lawatyourside.com.

Today, I want to answer the question of what do I do after I've seen a doctor for my work-related injury. So, you're going along at work, unfortunately something happens, you hurt yourself, and now you’ve gone and seen the doctor for the first time, what's the next step?

So what the doctor does after he/she evaluates you, the doctor will make a determination. Maybe they say, “Hey you know what, I don’t feel you should go back to work just yet. Let's spend some time giving you some treatment and use some physical therapy or whatever it is help you get better, and then we’ll send you back to work.” So doctor will put you on what's called temporary disability, meaning you’re temporarily disabled, so at that time, you won't go back to work, and this might happen for a few weeks, months, or some case even years for some people.

So what happens is when you’re off work, the doctor has you on temporary disability, what do you do for money now? You don’t have any money coming in because the employer’s maybe not paying you. You're an hourly employee and they can't pay you now. You're entitled to what's called temporary disability benefits. What that is, it's two-thirds of your weekly wage.

So let's say, you make $3000 or $4000 a month, let's just say $4000 just to make it even. So $4000 a month, let's says it's $1000 per week. You’re entitled to two-thirds of that, so that’d be $666.67 every week and they will pay you that every two weeks. So they're required to do that by law. So that’s the compensation that you can get after you suffered a work injury and you get that compensation through the time that the doctors continue to have you on temporary disability.

So don’t fear that you're not going to get any money, that you’re going to starve, you’re not going to have any money. The system is set up for while you're recovering, while you're on temporary disability, you're allowed to get these benefits to compensate you while you are recovering. So if you're not getting those benefits, give us a call. We will do our best to make sure that you are getting them.

All right, thanks so much for watching and I'll see you on the next video.
